چکیده

arathyroid hormone (PTH) ● Released in response to lowering of ionized Ca via Ca-sensing receptor inactivation (ionized Ca decreases PTH release) ● Cleaved from pre-pro PTH to pro PTH to PTH in gland, and then secreted and catabolized to N-terminal (active) and C-terminal fragments. Most of the C-terminal fragments are inactive, but some C-terminal fragments (sometimes called “7-84” fragments although true sequence is not known) may have antagonistic effects on bone via different receptors. ● Activity: Increases Ca reabsorption (and decreases P reabsorption) from kidney Increases bone resorption by multiple mechanisms Indirectly increases intestinal absorption by enhancing conversion of 25(OH) vitamin D to 1,25(OH) vitamin D ● Regulation: Hypocalcemia stimulates PTH secretion Calcitriol (1,25[OH]2D) inhibits PTH secretion, and PTH increases conversion of vitamin D to calcitriol, thereby completing feedback loop for regulation Hyperphosphatemia stimulates PTH secretion Severe hypomagnesemia stimulates PTH secretion

Chapter 5: Electrolyte and Acid–Base Disorders in Malignancy

Renal complications in cancer patients include AKI, hypertension, orelectrolyte and acid–basedisorders. Of the latter, there are various types that share the ability to increase morbidity and mortality, delay treatment, and decrease quality of life. Understanding the etiology of electrolyte and acid–base abnormalities in cancer patients is critical to prompt recognition and appropriate treatmen...

Serum profiles of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin D and parathyroid hormone in Caspian horses during different seasons

Minerals play an essential role in the normal vital process.Calcium, phosphorus and magnesium are the most abundant minerals. Vitamin D and parathyroid hormone play a key role in regulation of their homeostasis as well. The aim of this study was to evaluate calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin D and parathyroid hormone on 30 Caspian horses of Guilan Province (south of the Caspian Sea) in two...

DISORdeRS Of CALCIUm meTAbOLISm

Abnormalities of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are common in hospitalized patients. Infrequently patients might present in the outpatient settings with non-specific symptoms that might be due to abnormalities of divalent cation (magnesium, calcium) or phosphorous metabolism. Several inherited disorders have been identified that result in renal or intestinal wasting of these elements. Physic...
